World Pasty Championships 2017!
Monday 20th February 2017
It's that time of year again! The World Pasty Championships return to the Eden Project for the sixth annual celebration our favourite food - the pasty! The event will take place on Saturday 4th March 2017, from 9.30am to 6pm.
The day will be full of all things Cornish, with live music and entertainment happening all day. There will also be a range of activities to partake in, and we are proud to be helping with the Kid's Pasty Making workshops which will be running at set times throughout the day. As usual, Eden's beautiful Biomes will also be open for exploring! For more details of what is going on during the day, take a look at The Eden Project's website.
The World Pasty Championships is open to anyone and everyone to take part in, and this is encouraged! Details of categories and rules can be found here.
For companies, there are two categories that can be entered. These are the Company - Cornish Pasty, and the Company - Open Savoury Pasty. After winning silvers in both of these last year, we will be entering them again!
The Cornish Pasty category is for the traditional, steak Pasty which is PGI protected. This means a number of rules must be followed in making the pasty, such as the ingredients it contains and it must be the distinctive 'D' shape. More information on these rules can be found on the Cornish Pasty Association website.
The Open-Savoury Pasty category is a chance to get a bit creative, and is open to interpretation. We entered our Chicken & Mango Pasty last year, which won us 2nd place!
Whether you're a pasty lover, or looking for a fun, Cornish-themed day out, the World Pasty Championships has something for everyone. We hope to see you there!
